DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has dismissed Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki’s remarks regarding Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) potential menteri besar candidate in Negeri Sembilan as an attempt by a political rival to create controversy.
Loke was responding to Asyraf’s challenge for PH to reveal its choice for the menteri besar post if caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun fails to retain the Linggi state seat in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan election.
He said PH’s choice remains clear, with Aminuddin being the coalition’s sole candidate for the position.
“Our menteri besar candidate is only one person, Tok Min (Aminuddin),” he said after attending a working visit to the railway track rehabilitation and upgrading project between Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, and Mentakab Railway Station, Pahang, at Bahau Railway Station.
Loke also pointed out that he does not qualify for the position based on the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, which requires the menteri besar to be a Malay Muslim state assemblyman.
“The requirements are clearly stated in the state constitution. The menteri besar must be a Malay Muslim assemblyman. I do not fulfil those qualifications,” he said.
The DAP leader said the matter raised by Asyraf was merely political speculation, as PH had already identified Aminuddin as its candidate to lead the state administration.
Previously, Asyraf questioned who PH would nominate as menteri besar if Aminuddin loses the Linggi seat, suggesting that Loke could potentially be considered for the position.
“If we win Linggi and Tok Min loses, PH must answer who its MB candidate will be. Is it going to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke?” Asyraf said.
