Malaysia Says Medical Device Supply Remains Stable Despite Global Energy Crisis

The supply of medical devices in Malaysia remains stable and under control despite ongoing global energy disruptions that have affected the availability of certain high-risk imported materials.

The Ministry of Health Ministry of Health Malaysia said in a statement that it is closely monitoring the situation while implementing continuous mitigation measures to ensure the healthcare system remains uninterrupted.

To strengthen supply chain resilience, the Medical Device Authority Medical Device Authority Malaysia has finalised a strategic agreement with Chinese authorities to increase the supply of key raw materials such as resin and naphtha used in local industrial production of medical devices.

The ministry said the initiative is aimed at stabilising the supply chain and ensuring uninterrupted production of essential medical equipment in Malaysia. It added that the additional materials will help address current shortages affecting global manufacturing sectors.

The agreement was reached following high-level discussions involving the MDA chief executive, who also chairs the Global Harmonisation Working Party (GHWP), alongside representatives from the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone Administration and the Pudong New Area government in China.

Malaysia also expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for its cooperation and commitment in supporting the stability of raw material supply chains for the regional medical device industry.

MOH reiterated that it will continue to monitor developments closely to ensure efficient distribution of medical supplies based on clinical needs, prioritising patient welfare and the resilience of the national healthcare system.
