PM Anwar to Visit Ethiopia, South Africa and Kenya to Boost Malaysia–Africa Cooperation

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will embark on an official visit to Ethiopia, South Africa and Kenya from November 18 to 24, aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s diplomatic presence and tapping into rapidly growing African markets, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced today.

According to the prime minister’s senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, Anwar will travel aboard a special chartered Malaysia Airlines flight, accompanied by senior government officials and a delegation of Malaysian business leaders.

“The visit is intended to deepen economic cooperation, attract investments and broaden Malaysia’s international partnerships under the government’s Madani agenda,” he said.

Anwar’s first stop will be Addis Ababa, where he is scheduled to call on Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie and attend the Malaysia–Ethiopia High-Level Business Forum.

He will also meet Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali to discuss strategic cooperation, with several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) expected to be exchanged.

In addition, Anwar will meet African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and deliver a public lecture aimed at engaging African youth and reinforcing Africa–Asia ties.

From Ethiopia, Anwar will travel to Johannesburg to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit 2025.

“As ASEAN chair for 2025, Anwar will represent the interests and aspirations of 650 million people in Southeast Asia,” Tunku Nashrul said.

While in Johannesburg, Anwar is expected to meet South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, attend a business forum with industry leaders, engage in a dialogue with the Islamic community, and meet Malaysian citizens living in the country.

Anwar’s final stop will be Nairobi, where he will hold a four-eye meeting and bilateral discussions with Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, followed by more MoU exchanges.

He will also deliver the keynote address at the Malaysia–Africa Higher Education Forum, attend the Malaysia–Kenya Business Forum, and meet the Malaysian diaspora as well as alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).

Anwar and the Malaysian delegation are scheduled to return to Kuala Lumpur on November 25.
