Malaysian Embassy In Doha Issues Safety Advisory As Qatar Resumes Full School Attendance

Date:

The Malaysian Embassy in Qatar has issued a formal advisory urging all Malaysian citizens residing in the country to strictly adhere to safety protocols and local guidelines following the nationwide reopening of educational institutions. In a statement released via its official Facebook page, the mission emphasised that total compliance with Qatari authorities is a mechanical necessity to ensure a secure learning environment for students and the wider community. This move comes as schools across the Middle Eastern nation transition back to conventional classroom settings.

Following a period of precautionary distance learning that began on 1 March, Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education initiated a phased return to in-person classes starting 24 March. As of 29 March, full physical attendance has been mandated for all public and private schools, kindergartens, and higher education centres. While the embassy noted that the general situation in Doha remains calm and daily activities have largely returned to normal, it underscored the importance of Malaysians remaining vigilant and staying informed about their immediate surroundings.

Beyond educational matters, the embassy reminded the Malaysian diaspora to exercise caution regarding travel and information sharing. Citizens are advised to verify flight schedules frequently when planning any international transit, as commercial airline operations remain subject to sudden adjustments. Furthermore, the advisory highlighted a critical legal reminder: under Qatari law, the recording or dissemination of information related to security incidents is a punishable offence. Malaysians are strictly cautioned against sharing unverified security-related content on social media platforms.

The diplomatic mission also encouraged citizens to maintain a high level of situational awareness despite the perceived stability in the region. The transition from remote to physical schooling is seen as a significant milestone in Qatar’s current administrative strategy, and the embassy remains committed to monitoring the welfare of the Malaysian community during this period of adjustment. This proactive outreach is designed to prevent any legal or safety complications for expatriates navigating the updated local regulations.

For those requiring consular assistance or seeking information regarding the welfare of fellow citizens, the Malaysian Embassy has provided multiple channels of communication. Malaysians in Qatar can reach the embassy via telephone at +974 3374 6733 or +974 4483 6463. Additionally, the Wisma Putra Operations Room in Putrajaya is available at +603 8887 4570, or enquiries can be directed to the official email address at mwdoha@kln.gov.my.
