Massive Russian Strike Slams Kyiv — Buildings on Fire, Residents Injured

Date:

Russian forces launched a large-scale drone and missile strike on Kyiv early Friday, hitting multiple buildings and sparking explosions and fires across the city, Ukrainian officials said.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that two people were injured in the assault.
“Air defences are operating in Kyiv,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram. “The enemy is carrying out a massive attack on the capital. Stay in shelters.”

According to the mayor, debris from intercepted missiles struck a five-storey residential building in the Dniprovskyi district on Kyiv’s left bank, while a high-rise apartment block in the Podil district on the right bank caught fire.

Additional fires broke out elsewhere, including one on the roof of an apartment building, and falling debris also damaged a school in eastern Kyiv.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed that Russia had used both drones and missiles in the attack. He and Klitschko urged emergency responders to move quickly to affected neighbourhoods.

Ukraine’s air force separately reported that Russian missile strikes were targeting Kyiv and several other regions during the assault.
