MCA Youth has questioned DAP deputy chairman Nga Kor Ming’s comparison between Perak, Johor and Negeri Sembilan, suggesting that his remarks could be interpreted as a swipe at DAP leaders in the two states.
MCA Youth Information chief Neow Choo Seong said the comparison was made by the Perak DAP chairman during DAP’s 60th anniversary dinner in Buntong on Sunday.
He questioned whether Kor Ming’s remarks were aimed at DAP leaders in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, namely Teo Nie Ching and former DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, following the party’s performance in both states.
“Every leader has the right to be optimistic, and perhaps Nga Kor Ming is confident that Perak DAP is performing better than DAP in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. However, whether he likes it or not, the reality shows that voters are increasingly rejecting DAP,” Choo Seong said in a statement on Monday.
He pointed to DAP’s recent electoral results, noting that the party contested eight seats in the Sabah state election but failed to win any. In Johor, DAP secured six of the 17 seats it contested.
In Negeri Sembilan, DAP won nine of the 11 seats it contested, while the two seats it lost were those contested by Loke and Negeri Sembilan executive councillor S Veerapan, he said.
“Perak is certainly not Johor or Negeri Sembilan. However, I believe the people of Perak are also capable of assessing what Nga Kor Ming and DAP have said and what they have delivered since taking over the state administration in 2018,” he said.
At the same time, Choo Seong acknowledged that MCA had yet to fully regain the support of voters, particularly among the Chinese community.
He said the party was conducting a process of self-reflection while continuing to work towards rebuilding public confidence.
“Most importantly, MCA would never resort to politics of slander or racial provocation simply to win votes.
“What is the point of gaining power by sacrificing the unity of our multiracial society and causing instability in the country?” he said.
On Monday, reports quoted Perak DAP as expressing confidence that a “Red Wave” would emerge in the state as a reflection of public support for Pakatan Harapan (PH), which it said prioritised unity, stability and good governance.
Kor Ming, who is also the Teluk Intan MP, said during his speech that Perak had its own unique character, with people from different ethnic backgrounds able to stand together as one family.
