The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is using its Permanent Food Production Park (TKPM) projects to encourage youth participation in agriculture.
Deputy Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin told the Dewan Negara that the initiative, a joint federal-state effort, enables young people to apply for agricultural land. “Johor alone has nine TKPMs, while nationwide, there are 76 projects,” he noted.
The programme aims to give aspiring farmers and livestock raisers organised access to land, while cultivating a skilled agricultural workforce and fostering young agri-entrepreneurs.
Chan added that the ministry is working with other agencies to identify more land for agricultural development. He encouraged youth to follow state agriculture departments’ websites and social media for land application updates.
In another session, Chan urged rice farmers to report any manipulation of the padi weight deduction system, warning that action will be taken against parties who deliberately affect farmers’ income. “The padi deduction system should always follow the ‘rice check’ standard,” he stressed, addressing claims that some millers may be influencing lorry drivers’ payments.
