Ministry Steps In to Protect Children in Alleged Two-Husbands Case

Date:

The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) has assured that it will prioritise the welfare and well-being of children involved in a case in Terengganu involving a woman who is alleged to have two husbands.

Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said she will seek detailed information on the case to determine what form of assistance can be provided to ensure the children involved remain protected.

“I only arrived late last night from Turkmenistan and have yet to receive a full briefing on the matter,” she told reporters after attending the Ceria Kasih programme organised by the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) and a back-to-school contribution handover for the 2026 school session here yesterday.

Nancy said the case is currently being handled by the Terengganu Islamic Religious Affairs Department and falls under the jurisdiction of the state’s religious authorities.

She added that the ministry would review the situation once a complete report is received to identify appropriate measures to support the children involved.

“Matters related to religion and legal issues will be referred to the relevant ministries and agencies according to their respective jurisdictions,” she said.

Earlier, media reports in Kelantan said a woman had revealed the actions of her sister-in-law, who allegedly remarried in Thailand in November last year despite still being legally married to her brother. The woman claimed her brother was deceived by his wife, who had reportedly married another man more than a year ago.
