The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has stepped up patrols under Op Khas Pagar Laut to tackle smuggling and illegal immigration, particularly during the Ramadan and Syawal festive period.
Focusing on high-risk areas between Kuala Kesang and Kuala Sepang, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan MMEA deputy operations director, Maritime Commander Norrimi Hassan, said these months are often targeted by criminal activities. “This operation is a proactive step to strengthen enforcement and prevent cross-border crime,” he told reporters.
Op Khas Pagar Laut, which runs from February 27 to April 10, is structured into four phases: Preparation, Pre-Festive Enforcement, Festive Enforcement, and Monitoring with Post-Exercise Debrief.
Norrimi highlighted that continuous patrols, strategic surveillance, and rigorous enforcement are key to maintaining maritime security.
He also urged the public and maritime community to report any suspicious activities. “Collaboration from everyone is essential to keep our waters safe,” he added.
