MP Rafizi Ramli Threatened Over WhatsApp: ‘Shut Up or AIDS’

Date:

Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli has linked the recent syringe attack on his son to a meeting he held last week with a group of whistleblowers, though he declined to reveal details of the alleged scandal. In addition to the attack, Rafizi revealed that his wife received two threatening WhatsApp messages—one at 1:12 a.m. and another at 11:02 a.m.—both warning them to “shut up, if you continue, AIDS,” with the second message including three syringe emojis.

The 12-year-old was attacked at a Putrajaya shopping mall yesterday, and Rafizi suggested the syringe could have contained drugs, poison, or a virus such as hepatitis or HIV, though it may also have been empty. He said that initial blood tests have ruled out immediate danger from drugs or poison, and emphasized that his son will undergo repeated medical checks over the next six months to ensure no long-term effects. Fortunately, the boy has since been discharged from the hospital and has returned to school in good spirits.

Rafizi stressed that this is the first time his family has been targeted in such a manner and believes the attack was intended to intimidate him and pressure his family. “They think it’s easier to influence my decisions by targeting my wife or child,” he said. “This is a warning to make me back off, but I will not be deterred.” Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and Rafizi left details of the perpetrators to the police.
