MRSM Introduces Full-Time Former Military Wardens To Strengthen Discipline

Date:

All 58 Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) campuses will introduce full-time wardens from among former uniformed personnel starting next year, in a move aimed at strengthening discipline and hostel management.

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said in a Threads post that candidates from uniformed backgrounds were chosen due to their experience in leadership, discipline enforcement, and structured management.

He added that selected wardens will undergo specialised training to ensure they understand MARA’s educational philosophy, allowing their approach to align with the institution’s broader development goals.

Asyraf stressed that this initiative will also reduce the burden on teachers, allowing educators to focus fully on teaching, learning, and student character development rather than hostel supervisory duties. Such reforms, he noted, reflect a wider effort to improve the overall quality of student life in boarding schools.

Previously, MARA had implemented a pilot project involving former military personnel as wardens at MRSM Balik Pulau and MRSM Besut to address bullying issues among students.

The six-month pilot programme was introduced to help curb and break the cycle of bullying behaviour in boarding schools, which has raised growing concern among education stakeholders.
