Muhyiddin Respects PAS Decision, Says BERSATU Campaign Will Continue Independently

Date:

BERSATU president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has respected PAS’s decision not to assist the party’s campaign in the Johor state election, stressing that the party will continue its election work based on its own strength.

Muhyiddin said the decision does not affect BERSATU’s campaign efforts, which will continue focusing on the party’s policies and track record in an effort to win voter support.

He said cooperation within Perikatan Nasional (PN) ideally involves mutual assistance, but parties are free to decide their level of involvement.

“If they don’t want to help, we accept it. We are working hard based on our own strength and the policies and practices we have carried out,” he said after the nomination process for the Bukit Kepong state seat.

He added that voters would ultimately decide based on their assessment of each party’s performance and credibility.

Muhyiddin, however, said BERSATU remains open and willing to assist coalition partners if needed throughout the campaign period in Johor.

On claims that PN is not aiming to form the state government as it is contesting only 33 of the 56 seats, he said the number is still sufficient to cross the threshold required to form a government.

Earlier, Muhyiddin accompanied Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal during the nomination process for the Bukit Kepong seat at the Pagoh Sports Complex nomination centre.

Sahruddin, the former Johor Menteri Besar, is defending the seat he has held for two terms since 2018.

The PN Johor chairman is facing a three-cornered contest against BN’s Ahmad Syarie Yusoh and PH’s C Subramani, who is also PKR Pagoh division chief.
