The location where former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak would serve his house arrest cannot be confirmed until he settles the RM50 million fine imposed as a condition of his conditional pardon.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said Najib would remain at Kajang Prison until the fine was paid.
“As of now, Datuk Seri Najib’s family has not paid the fine. After the payment is made, I cannot accurately predict when he will be brought home,” he told Utusan Malaysia yesterday.
Dusuki said the Prisons Department would determine and detail the standard operating procedures (SOPs) governing Najib’s house arrest.
Najib currently has two residences in Kuala Lumpur, located in Langgak Duta and Pavilion.
Under Section 3 of the Prisons Act 1995 (Act 537), the minister may, through a notification in the Gazette, declare any house, building, enclosure or place to be a prison for the purposes of the Act.
The same provision also allows the prison status of a designated premises to be revoked through the same process.
Meanwhile, Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said no metal fencing or heavy security barriers would be installed at Najib’s Langgak Duta residence if he serves his sentence under house arrest there.
He said security arrangements would be shared between the Royal Malaysia Police and the Prisons Department.
“The Prisons Department will be responsible for security inside the residence, while the police will be responsible for the outside,” he said.
Anuar said the arrangement was discussed during a meeting involving police and Prisons Department officers at Najib’s Langgak Duta residence yesterday.
He added that security at the residence would remain under normal arrangements, with no metal fencing planned.
