National Service 3.0 Expands: 25,000 Trainees, 13 Camps, All States Included

Date:

The National Service Training Programme Series 3.0, launched last year, is set for full nationwide rollout by 2028, with 25,000 trainees expected to participate across 13 Territorial Army camps, including locations in Sabah and Sarawak.

Currently, the 45-day programme is conducted at the 505th Territorial Army Regiment Camp in Pekan for male trainees, while female trainees undergo training at the 515th Regiment Camp in Kuala Lumpur.

Colonel Mazlizan Shaikh Osman, director of training operations at the National Service Training Department, said the number of annual training sessions will increase from three to four starting this year.

“The first and second sessions will continue at the existing camps in Pekan and Kuala Lumpur, while the third session, beginning on July 11, will involve new camps in Perlis and Gemas, Negeri Sembilan. The fourth session, scheduled to start on October 3, will be held at Kluang, Johor,” he explained.

Several Territorial Army camps will be gradually opened for the programme, with all 13 camps expected to be operational by the fourth series in 2027. Seven camps will accommodate male trainees, and six will host female trainees. Each camp can handle between 300 and 700 participants per session, with more than 400 instructors involved across the country.

By 2028, the training programme is planned to take place at Territorial Army camps in all states, except Melaka, where the current camp may be relocated.

Colonel Mazlizan also noted changes to the schedule for the first series, which runs from January 17 to March 2, to account for Chinese New Year and the fasting month of Ramadan. Outdoor activities normally held later in the programme will be brought forward.

The full schedule for the four sessions this year is: January 17 to March 2, April 25 to June 8, July 11 to August 24, and October 3 to November 16.

This marks the third iteration of the National Service Training Programme since its relaunch last January.
