The Negeri Sembilan Palace has revoked two state honours previously conferred on former Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Mohd Rais Yatim, with immediate effect.
In a statement on Thursday, Negeri Sembilan State Secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim said the honours withdrawn were the Darjah Seri Utama Negeri Sembilan (SPNS), awarded in 2001, and the Darjah Dato’ Setia Negeri Sembilan (DSNS), conferred in 1979.
Mohd Zafir said the revocation was decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
He said the decision was made to safeguard the majesty, dignity and honour of the Negeri Sembilan royal institution.
The SPNS carries the title Dato’ Seri Utama, while the DSNS carries the title Dato’.
Rais, a former Cabinet minister, served as Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar from 1978 to 1982. He later served as President of the Dewan Negara from 2020 to 2023.
No further details were provided regarding the reason for the revocation.
