The Federal Government has agreed to return land previously occupied by the former Rajang Area Security Command (Rascom) in Sibu to the Sarawak government.
In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) said the decision was approved by the Cabinet during its meeting on Wednesday.
The land transfer involves four areas in Sibu — Nanga Tada, Nanga Jagau, Nanga Ngungun and Nanga — covering a total of 3,655.6 hectares.
NRES said the move reflects the Federal Government’s continued commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Sarawak government and fulfilling the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The ministry added that since 2023, the Federal Government has approved the return of 64 federally owned land lots in Sarawak to the state government.
According to NRES, the government remains committed to ensuring that the management of federal land and assets is carried out efficiently, transparently and in the spirit of cooperation between the Federal and state governments.
It said the transfer is aimed at benefiting the people while supporting the nation’s long-term development and prosperity.
