PKR Melaka chairman Adam Adli Abdul Halim says there have been no formal negotiations between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) at the state level over possible political cooperation ahead of the Melaka state election.
He said discussions involving representatives from both sides had taken place informally, but no official talks had been initiated by either coalition in Melaka so far.
“For now, there have been no formal negotiations at the state level in Melaka. However, communication and discussions continue, either individually or through party representatives with BN,” he said.
Adam Adli, who is also Hang Tuah Jaya MP, was speaking after the Santuni MADANI programme in Bukit Katil, which was officiated by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari at the Melaka Tengah Vocational College field.
His remarks come amid growing speculation that PH and BN could explore cooperation for the upcoming Melaka state election, which could be called at any time.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously said the coalition remained open to discussions on seat allocations and possible seat swaps, provided any agreement was reached sincerely and did not undermine the number of seats held by either party.
Adam Adli said Melaka’s political landscape had its own dynamics and should not be directly compared with other states that had already gone through state elections.
He said PH Melaka would consider various factors before deciding its next political move, including its previous experience as part of the state administration.
PH had been involved in governing Melaka for three years before withdrawing its support following the approval of the Melaka State Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026.
According to Adam Adli, the experience had left an impact on the community, particularly in terms of maintaining harmony and political stability, and would therefore be among the considerations in any future political arrangement.
On whether DAP’s decision to leave the state government could influence negotiations with BN, he said every party would have its own considerations and would bring its respective views and interests to the negotiating table.
Any potential cooperation, he added, would ultimately depend on the positions and priorities of all parties involved.
