A large number of Opposition MPs walked out of the Dewan Rakyat after Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul rejected a request to postpone the special sitting to debate the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
Before the debate was scheduled to begin, Opposition Chief Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan raised Standing Order 11(3) following the absence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from the special sitting.
Anwar was previously reported to be unable to attend the special parliamentary session as he was still recovering under medical supervision.
The Opposition’s request to defer the sitting was subsequently rejected by the Speaker, prompting a large number of Opposition lawmakers to leave the chamber.
The special sitting was convened to discuss the RCI report concerning TH, with the issue drawing attention from lawmakers on both sides of the political divide.
