PAS Perlis has reiterated that it will not enter into any form of political cooperation with former Bersatu members who were allegedly involved in acts of betrayal and have since joined Parti Wawasan Negara (WAWASAN).
Its commissioner, Ahmad Ali, said the decision reflects the party’s commitment to upholding the principles of trust, integrity and accountability, while maintaining public confidence in PAS’ longstanding political struggle.
He stressed that as long as the issue of the alleged betrayal remains unresolved and no clear action has been taken by Bersatu against those involved, PAS Perlis sees no basis for considering political collaboration with the group.
“PAS Perlis believes that every agreement between coalition partners must be respected and honoured. Any breach of such agreements amounts to a betrayal and risks creating disunity within the coalition,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Ahmad added that Bersatu should take appropriate action against any individual found to have played a role in the alleged betrayal, provided there is sufficient basis following the proper process.
He said allegations involving betrayal of a political struggle should be treated seriously and handled responsibly, adding that PAS Perlis would continue to uphold Islamic principles that emphasise honesty, loyalty and integrity in all political decisions.
According to him, the party remains committed to strengthening unity with coalition partners who are genuinely dedicated to defending the shared agenda for the benefit of religion, the nation and the people.
Meanwhile, WAWASAN Perlis coordinator Azahar Hassan, in a social media post, said the party would continue strengthening its presence in the state.
“Congratulations from Parti Wawasan Negara Perlis. The struggle of WAWASAN will continue to be strengthened. The field is the same, the players are almost the same and the objective remains unchanged,” he wrote.
Perlis’ political uncertainty began after former Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli resigned in December, with Bersatu’s Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah taking over the post.
Since then, speculation has emerged over attempts to remove Abu Bakar through a vote of no confidence during the previous State Legislative Assembly sitting. However, he has remained Menteri Besar after receiving the consent of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.
