PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden has instructed his legal team to initiate legal proceedings following a Facebook post allegedly published by a Bersatu leader that he claims insulted his father and family members.
Afnan said he recently came across a Facebook posting attributed to Melaka Bersatu information chief Hishamuddin Abdul Karim, in which the latter reportedly announced that an earlier controversial post had been removed.
According to Afnan, the same post also contained an apology from Hishamuddin, which was said to have been issued after considering advice and views from party leadership.
However, Afnan questioned the apology, claiming it failed to identify who it was specifically directed to, leaving uncertainty over whether it was intended for his father, his family, or any other party.
He further noted that the original post, which allegedly contained insulting remarks and personal attacks against his father, had since been deleted from the social media platform.
Despite its removal, Afnan said discussions and criticism surrounding the post continued to circulate online, attracting comments from netizens and political rivals alike.
The PAS Youth leader claimed the incident had caused emotional distress to his father and family members, adding that the remarks contained in the deleted post were excessive, offensive and damaging to their reputation and dignity.
He stressed that the removal of the posting did not erase its impact, particularly as screenshots and discussions about the matter continued to spread across social media.
As a result, Afnan said he had instructed his lawyers to proceed with legal action, citing the absence of a direct apology addressed specifically to his father or family.
“A Letter of Demand (LOD) will be served in the near future,” he said.
The development is expected to add further tension to the already heated political landscape, with legal proceedings now likely to determine the next chapter of the dispute.
