The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is investigating the circulation of pornographic videos involving several Members of Parliament that were allegedly created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail emphasized that the government takes the misuse of AI for criminal and defamatory purposes seriously, particularly when it involves national leaders. He stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible in accordance with existing laws.
The case is being investigated under Section 500 and Section 509 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, as it involves defamation, insult, and improper use of network facilities, he added in a written reply in Parliament.
Saifuddin explained that the police have already obtained witness statements and collected relevant digital evidence. PDRM is also working closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and CyberSecurity Malaysia for forensic analysis to identify the source and individuals responsible for creating and distributing the videos.
The minister’s remarks came in response to a question regarding the latest developments in the investigation into AI-generated pornographic content targeting several MPs.
Previously, media reports revealed that PKR MP Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari from Sungai Petani was the latest victim of such cyber threats, similar to past incidents involving MPs Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli from Pandan and Wong Chen from Subang.
