Perlis Exco Apologises Over Gambling Logo Jersey Issue, Says Matter Resolved

Date:

The controversy over a jersey displaying an online gambling platform logo has been considered resolved following an explanation and apology from a Perlis State Executive Council member.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Wan Zikri Afthar Ishak issued an apology to the public, saying he takes full responsibility over the incident and seeks forgiveness for the mistake.

“I apologise to all Muslims for this oversight and I repent to Allah for what has happened,” he said, adding that his participation in the football event was by invitation to engage with the team and support healthy sporting activities, particularly among youth.

He stressed that his involvement in the match was not intended to promote any brand, including those linked to gambling activities.

Wan Zikri said checks with team management showed that the jersey worn was a ready-made stock item purchased in bulk from an open market near the state border.

He explained that the team only added player numbers onto the pre-designed jerseys, without any intention to associate with gambling-related branding.

Reaffirming his stance, he said he remains committed to religious principles and rejects any involvement in gambling-related activities.
