Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Bukit Permai, Mohamad Shafwan Ani, has alleged that his campaign materials were deliberately covered with banners belonging to a rival candidate in an incident along Jalan Lebuhraya Putra, Bandar Putra, on Thursday night.
Mohamad Shafwan said he discovered the incident while returning home after attending a political ceramah in Ulu Choh, describing the act as an example of unhealthy election campaigning.
He stressed that a mature democracy should be built on healthy competition through policies, public service and ideas rather than attempts to interfere with or undermine an opponent’s campaign materials.
“We should be competing based on our ideas, our service to the people and the policies we offer, not by damaging or obstructing another candidate’s campaign materials,” he said when contacted on Friday.
According to Mohamad Shafwan, a formal complaint has already been lodged with the Election Campaign Enforcement Team (PP-KPR), and he has left the matter to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
While expressing confidence in the authorities to handle the case, he warned that he would not hesitate to pursue legal action if similar incidents were to occur again during the campaign period.
He also called for election campaigning to remain clean, fair and respectful of the democratic process, adding that he and his team would continue campaigning professionally while complying with all election regulations.
Mohamad Shafwan said he would remain focused on delivering his message to voters and believed the public should judge candidates based on their work, integrity and sincerity rather than what he described as “dirty political tactics”.
