PM Anwar Calls For Balanced Development In Johor, Says Rural Areas Must Not Be Left Behind

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for more balanced development in Johor, stressing that progress must reach rural areas and villages alongside major high-impact projects.

He said development should not be focused solely on mega projects, but must also include essential facilities that directly benefit the people, such as affordable housing, schools, community halls, stalls and other public amenities.

Anwar pointed out the stark contrast in development between urban Johor Bahru and areas such as Ulu Kempas and Ulu Tebrau, despite their relatively short distance from each other.

He said there is no need for high-rise buildings in rural areas, but basic facilities like schools, halls and mosques must be properly maintained and provided.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while speaking at the Kita Geng Madani Johor: Malam Anak Muda Kempas programme, which was also attended by Pakatan Harapan candidate for Kempas, Muhammad Faezuddin Mohd Puad, and AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said achieving balanced development requires voters to support leaders who are brave, firm and able to voice the concerns of the people.

He also expressed his aspiration to see Malaysia become a strong and respected nation before the end of his tenure as Prime Minister, saying the country must be developed while ensuring the people are not left behind.

On the Johor state election, Anwar reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a free and fair electoral process.

He stressed that the government will not interfere in the duties of the Election Commission (EC), as preserving democratic integrity is essential for national credibility and progress.

A total of 172 candidates are contesting 56 state seats in the Johor election, with polling day set for July 11 and early voting on July 7.
