PM Anwar To Launch Malaysia’s New High-Security Passport With 94 Anti-Forgery Features

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to unveil Malaysia’s newly redesigned international passport at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday, introducing a travel document equipped with 94 advanced security features aimed at strengthening protection against forgery and identity fraud.

The upgraded passport marks a significant improvement over the current version, which contains 49 security features. The new design is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the security of Malaysia’s official identity documents while maintaining the country’s reputation as one of the world’s strongest passport holders.

Among the new security enhancements are sophisticated holographic technology, ultraviolet (UV) printing, hidden visual elements and several specialised forensic security features designed to make counterfeiting significantly more difficult.

Authorities have also strengthened the thread binding the passport booklet, while every page has been given a unique design to provide an additional layer of protection against tampering.

Earlier this year, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced plans to introduce redesigned versions of both the Malaysian International Passport and the MyKad as part of broader initiatives to improve national data security and document integrity.

The launch comes as Malaysia continues to rank among the world’s top travel documents. According to the 2025 Passport Index, the Malaysian International Passport is currently ranked as the third most powerful passport globally, offering its holders extensive international travel access.

The introduction of the upgraded passport reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing border security, protecting citizens from identity-related crimes and ensuring Malaysian travel documents remain in line with the latest international security standards.
