PM Anwar Urges Selangor To Cancel Or Relocate Bukit Tagar Pig Farming Project

Date:

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Selangor government to cancel its proposal to centralise the state’s pig farming industry in Bukit Tagar, or alternatively relocate the project to a more suitable location.

He said the issue was raised during the Cabinet meeting earlier today, particularly concerns related to environmental impact and the wellbeing of nearby residents.

“These concerns, especially those affecting the environment and local communities, must be taken seriously. I will be discussing this matter further with the Selangor Menteri Besar,” Anwar told reporters after Friday prayers.

“If possible, we would prefer the project to be cancelled altogether or moved elsewhere,” he added.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, had expressed his disagreement with the state government’s plan to centralise pig farming operations in Hulu Selangor.

While acknowledging the need for small-scale, well-controlled pig farming to meet the needs of the non-Muslim population in Selangor, the Sultan said large-scale operations were unnecessary and insensitive, given that Muslims form the majority of the state’s population.
