PM Anwar Urges Youth To Understand Geopolitics And Warns Against Social Media Misinformation

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysia’s younger generation to deepen their understanding of geopolitics and global affairs, saying it is crucial amid rising economic uncertainty and ongoing global crises.

Speaking at a dialogue session at the Temenggong Ibrahim Teachers Education Campus today, Anwar said young people must become more informed and analytical rather than relying on unchecked information circulating on social media.

He stressed that the current global climate demands a population that is more perceptive, particularly as international political and economic developments directly impact Malaysia.

According to him, forming quick judgments based on incomplete or inaccurate information can harm social harmony and does not reflect maturity or intellectual growth.

“We want a generation that thinks critically, examines issues carefully and is open to differing views,” he said.

In a separate matter, Anwar also called for stricter regulations on non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and charities involved in public fundraising to prevent misuse and irregularities.

He noted a growing number of cases involving questionable practices in donation collection, including entities that allegedly exploit religious sentiments for personal gain.
