Perikatan Nasional (PN) has hinted at the possibility of forming a new political alignment with Barisan Nasional (BN) in Negeri Sembilan, as the state continues to grapple with an intensifying leadership and governance crisis.
PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar described the potential cooperation as not impossible, suggesting it could be one of the options to resolve the ongoing administrative deadlock. His remarks come as political realignments in the state appear increasingly fluid.
He said the next course of action will depend on how the political situation develops in the near future, stressing that the evolving dynamics are being closely observed by all stakeholders.
“What is happening in Negeri Sembilan from the beginning until now, I believe is known not only to me but to everyone,” he said after attending the Negeri Terengganu Sports Awards 2024/2025 on Monday. “We will observe what happens next.”
Addressing reports that five PN state assemblymen had expressed support for forming a new government with BN, Ahmad Samsuri insisted that the coalition remains stable and united despite the speculation.
He said PN is aware of the latest developments but will continue monitoring the situation before making any firm decisions. “At this point, within PN there is no disagreement regarding what is happening there. We will see what happens next,” he added.
He also suggested that in politics, nothing can be ruled out, including the possibility of larger coalitions or new political arrangements emerging in the future.
However, Ahmad Samsuri emphasised that any solution to the crisis must strictly follow legal and constitutional frameworks. “Any political issue must be examined from the perspective of state law and the Federal Constitution. Only then can politics play its role,” he said.
The political turmoil in Negeri Sembilan is reportedly linked to tensions involving state adat institutions and constitutional matters concerning the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and the Undang Yang Empat.
The situation escalated further following alleged disputes involving key traditional leadership positions, which led to the postponement of a recent State Legislative Assembly sitting.
Previously, Opposition Leader Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker revealed that five PN assemblymen had submitted a written proposal to BN seeking cooperation to restore political stability in the state.
Despite the uncertainty, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has maintained that he will continue to lead the state government even under a minority administration, stressing that there is no immediate need to dissolve the assembly.
