Putin Says Russia And China Ready To Defend Each Other’s Sovereignty

Date:

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia and China are prepared to strengthen cooperation and support one another on key issues involving sovereignty and national unity.

In a video address released ahead of his official visit to China beginning on May 19, Putin described relations between Moscow and Beijing as reaching an “unprecedented level” of mutual trust and understanding.

The Russian leader is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping for talks on May 20.

According to Putin, both countries are committed to expanding cooperation based on equality and mutual benefit while backing each other on matters considered core national interests.

“The protection of sovereignty and national unity” would remain among the areas where Russia and China are prepared to support one another, he said, without elaborating further.

Putin added that Moscow and Beijing are actively strengthening ties across multiple sectors, including economic, political and defence cooperation.

He also described the relationship between the two nations as “close” and “strategic”, claiming it plays a stabilising role in global affairs amid rising geopolitical tensions.

“We are not aligning against anyone, but working for the cause of peace and universal prosperity,” Putin said in the address.

The remarks come as Russia and China continue to deepen diplomatic and military cooperation while facing increasing scrutiny and pressure from Western nations over global security and geopolitical issues.
