The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) has introduced improvements to the payment mechanism for the Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) aid program to ensure faster, more streamlined assistance to disaster victims ahead of the 2025/2026 Northeast Monsoon season.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that under the enhanced initiative, disaster victims will receive financial aid within one to three days after temporary evacuation centers (PPS) are closed.
To date, RM284.8 million has been disbursed to all states through the State Secretary’s Office or the Federal Development Office to be distributed to registered household heads (KIR) who were relocated to PPS.
He added that the payments will be executed based on the disaster victims’ KIR registration data via the MyInfoBencanaJKM system.
“Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) will transfer BWI payments directly into the relevant KIR accounts. Alternatively, recipients can claim their aid in cash at nearby BSN counters,” he explained.
Dr Ahmad Zahid emphasized that the government remains committed to improving every aspect of the initiative with integrity and accountability, reducing bureaucratic delays, and ensuring that aid is delivered quickly, transparently, and efficiently.
He made the statement in response to a question from Hassan Saad (PN-Baling) in the Dewan Rakyat regarding NADMA’s mechanisms for expediting disaster aid, including for floods, storms, and fires, to ensure victims receive prompt assistance without bureaucratic burdens.
The list of recipients will be determined by the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) and certified by the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN).
