The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) is offering Advance Loan Assistance (WPP) to 27,674 students, involving an allocation of RM41.5 million for this year’s intake into higher learning institutions.
Its chairperson, Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim, said the WPP is offered to Malaysian students who opted to receive the aid when applying for admission to public higher education institutions (IPTA) through UPUOnline or the public university admissions portal.
She explained that the students’ parents or guardians must be recipients of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid and meet the eligibility criteria set by PTPTN.
“Each eligible student will receive RM1,500 as initial preparation to enter public universities or polytechnics, to help ease financial burdens and safeguard their welfare.
“The WPP facility is one of the government’s initiatives to help students begin their studies with greater confidence and comfort. PTPTN is always attentive to students’ welfare, especially as they begin their higher education journey. This aid reflects the government’s concern in alleviating financial pressures at the start of their studies.
“We want every student to commence their academic session without worrying about living or study costs,” she said in a statement today.
Norliza emphasized that PTPTN remains committed to ensuring no student is left behind in pursuing higher education due to financial constraints.
She added that students can check their WPP offer through the myPTPTN app and redeem it at any Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) branch nationwide starting this Wednesday.
The redemption period will be valid for two months, from 24 September to 23 November, and students must bring the printed WPP offer letter from the myPTPTN app along with their MyKad.
“Redemption by a representative on behalf of the student is not allowed,” she said.
Meanwhile, Norliza said that in Penang, 1,380 students are receiving WPP involving RM2.07 million in allocations, including 88 students in the Bukit Gelugor area who received a total of RM132,000.
“We congratulate the students who have successfully furthered their studies. We hope this assistance supports their pursuit of knowledge and helps produce quality graduates,” she added.
