Saifuddin Nasution Denies Claims Of Arbitrary Citizenship Approvals For Chinese Nationals

Date:

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has dismissed allegations circulating online claiming he is arbitrarily approving citizenship applications for Chinese nationals, describing the accusations as defamatory and misleading.

In a post on X, Saifuddin urged the public not to be easily swayed by false narratives and to verify information through credible and official sources.

He stressed that all citizenship applications are processed strictly in accordance with the Federal Constitution, national laws, and rigorous security screening procedures.

“Throughout my tenure as home minister, I have explained these facts, complete with supporting data, several times in Parliament as well as during media briefings,” he said.

He further clarified that citizenship approvals are not influenced by any political agenda, but are instead governed by established legal frameworks and due process.

The minister also highlighted a viral poster containing his image and an alleged statement claiming he had unilaterally approved citizenship for Chinese immigrants and that such decisions were beyond public scrutiny.

Saifuddin said the poster, which also featured political party logos, was part of a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and stir up sentiment through misinformation.

He described the allegations as malicious slander and reiterated that he has consistently rejected similar claims previously raised on social media.

The Home Minister has addressed comparable accusations multiple times, including in Parliament and in public briefings, most recently in March 2025, reaffirming that all applications undergo strict evaluation before approval.
