Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has warned that legal action, including filing lawsuits, will be taken against any party accused of manipulating his remarks on history for political gain.
He said police reports would also be lodged against individuals or groups who allegedly distorted his recent speech delivered during a political gathering in Negri Sembilan.
Sanusi stressed that his remarks were based on historical facts and were not directed at any specific individual or group.
“I only stated facts. Anyone who tries to manipulate this issue for political interests, I will sue.
“I will make a counter police report and take legal action to correct the situation. Do not attempt to distort the facts,” he said.
He made the remarks after officiating the state-level Animal Welfare Carnival, Malaya Sado Cattle Gathering and World Rabies Day celebration at Suka Menanti on Saturday.
Previously, Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director, attracted criticism after discussing the history of Tanah Melayu and the position of Malays in terms of political and economic influence during a campaign speech in Jempol, Negri Sembilan.
He had said that Tanah Melayu was the only homeland for Malays compared with other ethnic communities, a statement which drew reactions from several political leaders.
Sanusi claimed his full remarks had been taken out of context and said certain parties had deliberately used selected parts of his speech to create a different perception.
“Everything was explained clearly. Some people only took parts of it, added their own interpretation and turned it into an issue,” he said.
He maintained that history should not be used as a reason to create tension, but instead should be studied to understand past events and shape the future.
Sanusi also said those who shared videos or reports that allegedly failed to represent his actual statements should be held responsible for their actions.
He reiterated that he would not back down from defending his remarks, which he described as being based on historical facts.
