Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, has addressed public concern over a viral WhatsApp message alleging a Federal Government Human Resource letter linked to Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS).
In a public statement, he said he had received numerous enquiries asking whether the circulated document was authentic. He stressed the importance of verification, thanking those who took steps to check the information before sharing it further.

He contrasted this approach with individuals who, in his view, tend to circulate unverified content on social media, often under the guise of seeking clarification, but contributing instead to wider dissemination for attention or publicity.
Dr Sim also raised concerns over the prevalence of fake news in Malaysia, questioning why misinformation appears to spread rapidly, particularly through digital platforms such as WhatsApp and social media networks.
He further commented on the broader political environment over the past decade, describing it as increasingly polarised and emotionally charged, with online narratives often driven by negativity, fear and distrust. He suggested that such dynamics have persisted despite multiple changes in government since 2018.
Focusing on Sarawak, he called for continued vigilance among the public and urged citizens to preserve unity, positive values and trust in state development efforts. He emphasised the importance of maintaining constructive engagement and optimism in the state’s nation-building agenda.
Dr Sim also encouraged the public to evaluate credibility based on track records and character, rather than political rhetoric, and reiterated the need for collective effort in supporting Sarawak’s progress.
