The Selangor government will review claims that live pigs from other states are entering the country through Selangor before deciding on further action.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said he needed to obtain more information as the issue also involved other states.
“I am investigating because other states want to bring in supplies of live pigs, using Selangor as the entry point.
“I need to investigate and review the matter before we take any action,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
He was speaking after the launch of a collaboration programme involving Air Selangor, Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC).
The issue of live pig imports into Selangor recently drew attention following an invitation to a press conference scheduled for October 16 by Pulau Indah Cooperative chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Palil and Sungai Pinang Fishermen’s Jetty chairman in Port Klang.
However, the press conference, which was supposed to take place at a restaurant in Shah Alam, was postponed to a date yet to be announced.
The event was intended to discuss issues surrounding the entry of live pigs into Selangor, although no further details were provided.
