Senior Armed Forces Officer To Return For Further MACC Questioning Today

Date:

A senior armed forces officer will return today to continue recording his statement as part of an ongoing investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the officer was released at midnight last night after several hours of questioning.

“The officer is expected to return this morning as the recording of his statement has not yet been completed,” he said.

Yesterday, MACC summoned the senior officer to assist in an investigation into the alleged misuse of funds. Azam said the officer arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at about 11am to give his statement.

Earlier, Azam revealed that another senior military officer is also under investigation and is expected to be charged soon in connection with a separate corruption case.

He said investigations into that case are nearing completion and, subject to approval by the Attorney-General, the officer will be brought to court for prosecution.

Azam added that the alleged corruption involves matters linked to the Defence Ministry and stressed that the case is unrelated to the investigation involving a former army chief.
