Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Chief Secretary to the Government and Chief of Defence Forces to assist with arrangements and accord Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali a State Funeral Ceremony.
In a statement today, Anwar said the government and Malaysians expressed their condolences over the passing of Siti Hasmah, who died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning.
Anwar said his thoughts and prayers were with Siti Hasmah’s husband, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and the entire family as they mourned her death.
“May Allah forgive all her shortcomings, accept her deeds and contributions, and place her among the righteous and faithful.
“The nation will always remember her maternal figure and appreciate her contributions,” he said.
Siti Hasmah was confirmed to have died at IJN in Kuala Lumpur at 9.20am today.
Her death was confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, when contacted by Bernama.
She was 100 and leaves behind seven children.
