Several seats in the Negri Sembilan state election will witness multi-cornered contests after candidate nominations were announced today.
The Sikamat state seat will see a three-way fight involving Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Nor Azman Mohamad and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Datuk Razali Abu Samah, a former Melaka deputy police chief.
The announcement was made by Seremban mayor Datuk Masri Baharudin, who is also the Sikamat returning officer, at the nomination centre at the Seremban City Council Forest Heights.
Sikamat was previously held by Negri Sembilan PH chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who is also the caretaker menteri besar. However, Aminuddin will contest the Linggi seat in the upcoming election.
The Ampangan seat will also see a three-cornered contest between former assemblyman Datuk Dr Rafie Abd Malek of PN, PH candidate Datuk Muhammad Nazri Kassim and Bersatu’s Noor’azah Harun.
Rafie previously represented Ampangan under PH during the 2018-2023 term but was dropped as a candidate in the 15th state election before contesting as an independent.
In Lenggeng, incumbent BN candidate Datuk Mohd Asna Amin will defend the seat against PH’s Zarinna Abu Zarin and Bersatu’s Zool Amali Hussin.
Meanwhile, the Lobak seat will feature a straight contest between PH candidate Chew Seh Yong and PN’s Dr P Kumar.
The Nilai state seat will record the highest number of contenders, with a five-cornered battle involving incumbent PH representative Arul Kumar Jambunathan, BN’s Lai Chien Kong, Bersatu’s Datuk V Saravanan Kumar, BERJASA’s Zamani Ibrahim and independent candidate Omar Mohd Isa.
Arul Kumar, who is also a state executive councillor, retained the Nilai seat in the 2023 state election with a majority of 10,889 votes.
The Temiang seat will also see a three-way contest between PH’s Ho Weng Wah, BN’s Leaw Kok Chan and Bersatu’s Fazly Hamid.
