The Home Ministry is in the final stages of refining proposed amendments to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the review process aims to ensure a balance between national security needs, justice principles and the protection of fundamental rights.
He said the ministry would continue holding engagement sessions and conducting further assessments with relevant stakeholders before the amendments are finalised.
Saifuddin said the proposed changes must be clear, balanced and aligned with the Federal Constitution before they are presented to the Cabinet and tabled in the Dewan Rakyat.
“The amendments will be tabled after all these processes have been completed,” he said.
He was responding to a question from R.S.N. Rayer (PH-Jelutong), who asked when the Madani government expected to table the proposed Sosma amendments in Parliament.
