Thailand Imposes 21-Day Quarantine Over Ebola Outbreak Fears

Date:

Thailand has ordered all individuals arriving or transiting from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda to undergo a mandatory 21-day quarantine following the spread of the Ebola outbreak in both countries.

Thailand’s Health Ministry said the quarantine requirement applies to all travellers regardless of whether they are showing symptoms of the deadly virus.

Authorities confirmed that Thailand has not recorded any Ebola cases involving foreign visitors so far, but officials acknowledged the risk of transmission due to global travel movements.

Travellers displaying Ebola symptoms will be isolated and treated at designated government hospitals, while asymptomatic individuals will be placed under quarantine at special facilities yet to be publicly disclosed.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has now become the centre of the latest Ebola outbreak, prompting international health alerts from World Health Organization.

According to Congo’s Health Ministry, since the outbreak was officially declared on May 15, the virus has claimed 204 lives while 867 suspected cases have been recorded.

Meanwhile in Uganda, one person has reportedly died while six others have been confirmed infected with Ebola.

The WHO said it has recorded 10 confirmed Ebola deaths and 220 suspected deaths in Congo since mid-May, alongside more than 900 suspected infections.

Health experts warned that the actual spread of the virus could be significantly wider, as Ebola may have circulated undetected for some time before authorities identified the outbreak.

The latest developments have raised fresh concerns globally, especially as countries continue tightening border screenings and public health measures to prevent another major international health crisis.
