Three Police Reports Filed Over Hadi’s Claim US Offered Help To Topple Malaysian Government

Date:

Three police reports were lodged on Sunday over PAS president and Marang MP Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s claim that the United States had offered assistance to topple the Malaysian government in 2014.

The reports were filed at the Cheras police station by PKR Bandar Tun Razak branch vice-chief V Jonathan, PKR Bandar Tun Razak women’s chief Mazlina Osman and Bandar Tun Razak Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) deputy chief Amarul Hisham Jalil.

Jonathan said the reports followed remarks made by Hadi during his speech at the 70th PAS Annual Muktamar at the Pusat Tarbiyah Islamiyah Kelantan (PUTIK) on September 5, which were subsequently reported by a news portal.

According to Jonathan, Hadi claimed several PAS leaders had been invited to a meeting with the US Embassy during then-US president Barack Obama’s visit to Malaysia in 2014.

He said Hadi alleged that the US side had offered assistance to topple the government at the time.

“Among those said to have attended the meeting were Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Mustafa Ali, alongside the United States ambassador at the time,” he told reporters after lodging the report on Sunday.

Jonathan said the allegations should be taken seriously and that the reports were made to ensure claims involving attempts to overthrow or undermine the government and Malaysia’s parliamentary democratic system through unconstitutional means could be investigated under the law.

Meanwhile, Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud confirmed receiving a report concerning the matter at about 5pm on Sunday.

He said the report would be referred to the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters.

“Police reports have been lodged. I am checking the number of reports as well as the police station where the reports were made. However, it will all be referred to the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters,” he said.
