US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will bomb key Iranian infrastructure if Iran attacks commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump said Washington would retaliate by targeting a bridge or power plant every time Iran launched an attack on a ship passing through the strategic waterway.
“Effective immediately, every time the Islamic Republic of Iran fires at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether using missiles, rockets, drones or any other weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy one bridge or one power plant, including those located near or inside the capital, Tehran,” Trump wrote.
The warning comes after the United States carried out a series of strikes across Iran last week. In response, Tehran launched retaliatory attacks targeting facilities and military bases that it claimed were being used by US forces in several countries across the region.
The exchange of attacks has continued despite the United States and Iran signing a framework agreement brokered by Pakistan in June, aimed at ending the conflict that began in February and paving the way for a lasting peace agreement.
