PM Anwar: Government To Increase SARA Assistance Soon To Ease Cost Of Living

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the government will increase the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) in the near future to help Malaysians cope with the rising cost of living.

Speaking at the Jelajah Kekal Harapan ceramah in Senawang on Wednesday night ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election on 1 August, Anwar said the decision was made after listening to public feedback and concerns despite the various forms of assistance already provided by the government.

“Although we have provided Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and SARA, and in Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Aminuddin has also given a generous bonus to civil servants, have all the people’s problems been solved? Not yet.

“That is why we are listening to the people’s concerns, and God willing, we will increase SARA again for everyone in the near future,” he said.

Earlier, Anwar said the Madani Government would continue reviewing the possibility of increasing financial assistance for Malaysians, including STR and SARA, if the country’s economic conditions continue to improve.

He said the matter had been discussed with Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican and would be considered as part of the preparations for the 2027 Budget.
