UMNO Seeks Agong’s Mercy For Full Pardon For Najib

Date:

UMNO is appealing to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consider granting a full pardon to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when the Pardons Board next convenes.

UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party would continue to respect the established process and the constitutional prerogative of the King in deciding matters concerning pardons.

“However, with the utmost respect, UMNO continues to hope that at the next Pardons Board meeting, Najib’s application will be given due consideration.

“UMNO expresses its highest respect and fully honours the process and prerogative of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in making decisions concerning pardons.

“With all humility, we, the UMNO General Assembly, respectfully appeal for Your Majesty’s mercy and consent to consider granting Najib a full pardon, if deemed appropriate,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid said this while delivering his winding-up speech at the 2026 UMNO General Assembly (PAU 2026) at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here on Saturday.

The appeal came after the application for a pardon by Najib was deferred to a future Pardons Board meeting.

The decision was made at the 63rd meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara on Friday, according to a report by Sinar Harian on Friday.
