Umno To Invite Pas Top Leaders To 2026 General Assembly

Date:

Umno will extend an official invitation to Pas’ top leadership to attend its 2026 General Assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur from Sept 9 to 12.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision was approved during the party’s Supreme Council meeting last night.

He said the invitation was intended as a gesture of mutual respect, following an invitation from Pas for Umno leaders to attend its upcoming Muktamar.

“The meeting agreed to extend an official invitation to the top Pas leadership to attend the 2026 Umno General Assembly as a gesture of respect and to reciprocate the invitation extended to the Umno leadership to attend the Pas Muktamar,” he told reporters after the meeting.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had previously said Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was among the senior Umno leaders invited to the party’s 72nd Muktamar, which will take place from Sept 2 to 5.

Three other senior Umno leaders were also reportedly invited to the gathering.

Zahid had confirmed on Aug 23 that Umno would send representatives to the Muktamar, although the party had yet to determine who would attend.

The Pas Muktamar will be held in Kota Baru, Kelantan, with its main event scheduled to be opened by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang on Sept 4.

Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has confirmed that he will attend the Pas Youth Muktamar on Sept 3 following an invitation extended to the Umno Youth leadership.

The meeting between the two youth wings will provide an opportunity for their leaders to engage directly at an official party event.

On preparations for the Umno General Assembly, Asyraf said the Supreme Council had also approved three programmes to be held on Sept 8, one day before the main assembly begins.

The programmes comprise the 2026 Malay Education Convention, the Malaysian Islamic Scholars Multaqa and the Creative Women’s Pavilion.

“All three programmes scheduled for Sept 8 will be open to the public,” he said.

The reciprocal invitations between Umno and Pas come as both parties prepare for their respective major annual gatherings in September, with senior and youth leaders from the two sides expected to meet at several official events.
