A United States (US) strike on a water desalination plant in Bunji coastal village, Hormozgan province in southeastern Iran, has disrupted water supplies for around 10,000 residents, according to a provincial official.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, citing the head of the Hormozgan Water and Wastewater Company, reported that the attack had completely affected drinking water access for 20 villages in the area.
The official said residents in the affected villages are now facing a shortage of clean water following the damage to the facility.
The incident comes as tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate, with both sides carrying out attacks against each other in recent days.
The latest developments have raised concerns over the impact of the conflict on civilian infrastructure, particularly essential services such as water and electricity.
The rising military confrontation took place despite a memorandum of understanding (MoU) brokered by Pakistan in June aimed at ending the war and achieving a lasting peace agreement.
