Merlimau incumbent Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has criticised what he described as provocative campaigning by certain individuals during the Melaka state election.
The Umno Youth chief said such behaviour should not be used as a way to win voters’ support.
“Has it really come to this in your campaigning? You even tear down posters and resort to insults and verbal abuse. Never mind, carry on.
“God willing, your boss can win through this kind of campaigning. The people of Melaka will show their response at the ballot box. Congratulations, well done,” he wrote in a post on Thursday.
Earlier, Muhamad Akmal had shared a video showing a man allegedly provoking him by mentioning his name while repeatedly shouting the phrase ‘ayam bangkai’.
The Merlimau state seat is witnessing a straight fight between Muhamad Akmal and Melaka Amanah Wanita chief Rahayu Hamzah.
Muhamad Akmal has been fielded by Barisan Nasional (BN) to defend the seat, which he won in the 2021 state election with a majority of 3,248 votes.
