FIFA Confirms Trump Will Take Part In World Cup Trophy Handover

Date:

The 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain is set to feature a change in the trophy presentation ceremony, with United States President Donald Trump expected to join FIFA president Gianni Infantino in handing over the trophy to the champions.

Trump’s involvement has attracted attention as the FIFA president traditionally plays the main role in the trophy presentation following the final. However, FIFA confirmed that the host nation’s leader would also take part in the ceremony.

Infantino said a similar arrangement took place during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when former Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani joined him in presenting the trophy to Argentina captain Lionel Messi.

The situation also brings back memories of last year’s FIFA Club World Cup final, when Trump remained on stage as Chelsea celebrated their victory after defeating Paris Saint-Germain.

At the time, Trump’s decision to stay on the podium surprised several Chelsea players, including Cole Palmer, who admitted he did not expect the US president to remain during the trophy celebration.

Besides the updated trophy presentation format, this year’s World Cup final will also introduce new elements, including championship rings for the winners and a Super Bowl-style halftime performance.

The final between Argentina and Spain is expected to attract global attention as both teams compete for football’s most prestigious international title.
