Malaysia’s Toh Ee Wei Undergoes Successful ACL Surgery In Australia

Date:

Malaysia’s mixed doubles badminton star Toh Ee Wei has successfully undergone surgery on her left knee after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during last month’s Singapore Open.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed that the operation, performed in Melbourne, Australia, on Tuesday was successful and that the 25-year-old will now begin her rehabilitation programme.

Expressing her gratitude after the procedure, Ee Wei thanked everyone who had supported her throughout the difficult period and said she was relieved that the surgery had gone smoothly.

“I’m relieved that the surgery went well and I would like to thank everyone for your continuous support and prayers. It truly means a lot to me.

“My focus now is on rehabilitation, and I will give my full commitment to my recovery. I hope to return to the court stronger,” she said in a statement released by BAM on Wednesday.

BAM also pledged to continue providing the necessary medical care and rehabilitation support throughout Ee Wei’s recovery as she works towards returning to competitive action.

Ee Wei travelled to Melbourne last week to seek specialist medical advice after scans confirmed she had torn her ACL during the Singapore Open.

Her recovery timeline has yet to be determined, although the injury is expected to rule her out of defending the mixed doubles title at the BWF World Championships in New Delhi, India, scheduled to take place from 17 to 23 August, alongside her partner Chen Tang Jie.

Before travelling to Australia, Ee Wei revealed on social media that initial medical assessments suggested non-surgical treatment could require between three and nine months of recovery, leading her to opt for surgery in hopes of achieving the best possible long-term outcome.
