Malaysia’s hopes of securing a double title at the Denmark Open were dashed after men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik fell to Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the final on Sunday.
The Malaysian pair suffered a straight-games defeat, losing 8-21, 11-21 in just 31 minutes at the SJ Bank Arena in Odense.
The defeat marked Aaron and Wooi Yik’s third loss to the Indonesian duo in five meetings.
Despite the setback, Malaysia had reason to celebrate as women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah ended the country’s 18-year wait for the Denmark Open title in their event.
The world number five pair defeated Japan’s Hinata Suzuki-Nao Yamakita 21-18, 21-11 in 36 minutes to claim the women’s doubles crown.
Malaysia had last won the women’s doubles title in 2008 through Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty.
The victory marked Pearly and Thinaah’s second title of the year, following their triumph at the Indonesia Masters earlier this year.
